My girls and I love doing holiday crafts, but it can be difficult to find crafts that are simple enough for my preschooler to do but still fun for my older daughter. I thought I would share a couple we tried this year that ended up being fun for all of us.
Footprint Reindeer
I absolutely love how cute these footprint reindeer turn out and they are simple enough that even very young children can successfully make them.
For this craft you will need:
-White paper
-Brown watercolors or tempra paint
-Googly eyes or small white circles cut from paper. I used a dime to trace circles on white paper, put black dots in the center, and then cut them out for our reindeer eyes.
-Red pompoms or small red circles cut from paper.
-A black or brown marker
Start by painting one of your child's feet with the brown paint, then make a footprint in the center of a white piece of paper. Set it aside to dry.
Once your footprint is dry, have your child glue on eyes near the toe end of the footprint. Add a red pompom or paper nose on the heel of the footprint.
When your child is finished, help them add ears and antlers with the black or brown marker.
Fingerprint Christmas Tree Art
For this craft you will need:
-White paper
-Watercolors
-Tape
-A Christmas tree shape about 3 inches wide and 5 inches tall cut from construction paper
Tape the construction paper tree in the center of the white piece of paper with a small piece of tape on the underside. You want to be able to easily remove the tree later.
Next have your child use the watercolors to make colorful fingerprints all over the page. The more fingerprints the better. Then set it aside to dry.
Once the paint is dry, carefully remove the construction paper tree.
Handprint Wreaths
This craft takes a little bit of adult prep work if your doing it with very young children who aren't good with scissors yet, but the rest is simple enough for preschoolers to do on their own.
For this craft you will need:
-Several sheets of green construction paper
-A paper plate or a circle about the size of a paper plate cut from cardboard.
-A pencil
-Glue
-Scissors
-Red pompoms or small red circles cut from red construction paper
-Ribbon or stickers or anything else your kids might like to decorate their wreaths with
Start by cutting the center out of the paper plate or cardboard circle, leaving you with a donut shape, then set it aside to use later.
Trace your child's hand about 10 times on the sheets of green construction paper, then cut them out.
Have your child glue the hand prints onto the paper plate or cardboard donut. They should overlap slightly so that it looks like a wreath when finished.
Then have your child decorate their wreath with red pompoms or other craft supplies.
